First thing’s first…Evaluate everything in your office.
Do you really need to keep all of those stacks of paper?
Do you use that old printer or is it just taking up space? Once you've determined what you need and what you can live without, it's time to start decluttering.
Next, sort through your belongings and discard anything that you no longer need or have a use for. Don’t forget to keep your desk clear.
A cluttered desk can be a big distraction.
Keep only the essentials on your desk, and put everything else away in drawers or cabinets. Organize your office so that you have a designated spot for everything; a place for all of the office supplies, paperwork, and any other items. This can be done by using shelves, filing cabinets, and other storage solutions.
When everything has a place, it is much easier to keep the office organized.
Invest in proper storage containers, drawer organizers, binders and file folders, then label them accordingly. You might have one container for office supplies and another one for binders and reference materials.
Your most important documents should be kept in properly labeled file folders so you can find what you need in a snap. You might also want to color code your file folders for the extra visual reference.
Create an inbox and outbox station.
Once you create that station, you should take the time to separate all of your incoming and outgoing mail and materials.
Be sure to keep your trash bin and shredder close to your station, so you can properly discard of any materials you no longer need.
Use a calendar. A calendar can help you keep track of deadlines, meetings, and other important events.
This will help you stay on top of your work and avoid missing any important meetings or deadlines.
You should also take advantage of technology. There are a number of great organization apps and programs available that can help you keep track of your work and stay organized.
No matter what system is used, it is important to maintain your organized office. This will make it easier to find things and to keep the office looking professional.
